“Without the free college program at YCCC, I would never have gone to college. I was a high school dropout without the skills or resources to excel at higher education. The community at YCCC encouraged and supported me to get me where I am today.”

Since earning her High School Equivalency Diploma, Maya has worked with the League of Women Voters of Maine and served on its board of directors. She was the president of the YCCC Student Government Association, a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, a member of YCCC’s College Cabinet, and graduated with a 4.0 GPA. She graduated in May 2024 and started as a junior at Emerson College studying journalism.
